The Ulmus parvifolia “Suberosa”, also known as the Corky Chinese Elm, is a rare and highly sought-after bonsai variety. It stands out for its unique corky bark, which begins forming naturally between 5 and 6 years of age, giving the tree an aged, character-filled appearance early in its life.
This variety features dense, finely serrated, small leaves, allowing for a beautifully compact and elegant bonsai silhouette. Known in Japan as “Nire” (meaning elm), it is appreciated by both beginners and collectors for its robustness, refinement, and aesthetic potential.
